When my child was born she tested positive for marijuana. I had to talk to a social worker before they would let me take her home. I also agreed to attend a drug class, but quit after one visit. I was in with crack heads and heroine addicts telling me how horrible I was. I told my social worker I wasn't going back. I never heard from her again. By the way, my child was tested this year (end of 2nd grade) for the gifted and talented program and will be participating in it next year.
If you're on government funded health insurance, they will test you as well as the baby at birth. If the babies meconium comes back clean, nothing will happen, a social worker will just come into your room and talk to you since you tested positive while pregnant. However, if the baby does test positive at birth, they will contact child protective services & at most you will have to come in for routine testing. Marijuana does NOT harm your baby, and your baby will be fine. If you are NOT on government funded insurance,it depends on the hospital at which you deliver whether or not they test the baby at birth. I'm talking from personal experience, good luck!
Some of you are very ignorant marijuana CAN NOT KILL a baby you sound like a jack wagon why don't you support your answer with facts not cockamaimy crap your mother told you or someone else to create fear. I do the same thing when my daughter tries to go into the basement I say "don't go down there monster get you!" It is only 100% safe to smoke during pregnancy if you get your marijuana from a medical distributor or grow your own and know that there is nothing else added. THAT is the risk of marijuana others becoming involved lacing and adding chemicals to the marijuana and mold and spidermites that grow and live in marijuana. Marijuana has been used since the begining of time as medicine and is one of the oldest known and widely used ingredient in alternative medicines. NOW thats an answer research anything I just stated
For those who say smoking marijuana during pregnancy is bad; Where did you get your facts from? All the research I've read shows there to be no negatives of smoking marijuana while pregnant. It's harmless.
I'm going through this right now. I tested positive for weed and sleeping pills. It was a false positive!! I tested neg on saturday and positive on Tuesday.. Only to find out it was Nyquil that my bf took and then kissed me and I had a tiny tiny amount in my system. I have a social worker and a FIT coach (family intervention team) . I have to be tested randomly for 60 days and they asked a million questions to my family, friends, neighbors and kids schools! YES.. All this for NYQUIL that I didnt even take!
I know several women who have smoked pot the entire time they were pregnant and their children were and are to this day absolutely fine!! I'm not saying there isn't risks to it, but there is a risk of walking across the street when your pregnant, too. There are a lot worse things you could be doin like smoking crystal meth or smokin crack! So if you absolutely have to fire something up--then blaze away!
I am 18weeks pregnant and drug tested postive for marijuana. I have had 2 previous kids and drug tested positive for both of them also. When having my 2nd kid in May of 2009 CPS was knocking on my door when he was 4days old because my doctor reported it. They gave me a drug test and I passed it. Now I'm drug testing positive again, but stopped smoking when I found out I was pregnant. Can anything happen when I go to deliver as far as CPS being there to take my baby when its born. And my 2 kids I already have?
The best thing you can do is stop smoking marijuana right now. Depending how far along you are, it could be out of your system & your child's system by the time you give birth (which is when they would be most likely to test for drugs)
I smoked marijuana up to 31 weeks with my daughter. They tell you there is a risk of low birth weight... Well she was 9 lbs at birth.
I did not have any issues with CPS and FYI... She is starting kindergarten at age 4 at an IB school this year. I am currently 27 weeks and have been smoking marijuana medicinally because I have recently been diagnosed with Fibromyaglia and cannot take my normal pain meds.
I wish you the best of luck. I know that laws vary state by state and depend on your doctor. The best thing is to be honest with the doctor. Chances are they wont scold you for it.
I don't by any means,want to sound harsh. But if you test positive for marijuana after you give birth. Then you are putting your child at risk. For compleat strangers to walk away with your baby. And have it put in the system. Run by goverment. Placed with foster parents. They may not even be fit parents. By morel and loving standers. Fight for your child/baby. Your the only mother it should have. The only one that it has bonded with already. For months. You two were/are. One!!! So make sure the next test will be negative. From here on out. Its a cruel/cold world out there. And no one will look after its child/baby better than its own mother!!! Good luck
