How long lortab remains in your system depends on how often you take it. If you’ve only used it once, it will exit the system within two to three days. If you are heavy user, then it could take as long as two to three weeks. Lortab is used to relieve moderate to severe pain but can also be used for other purposes. Lortab should be taken exactly as it is prescribed, and should never be taken in larger amounts or for longer than is recommended by your doctor. An overdose can damage your liver and an adult should not take more than four grams per day. Measure the liquid form with a special dose-measuring cup or spoon, not a regular table spoon. Ask your pharmacist where you can buy one. You should drink six to eight glasses of water a day to avoid constipation whilst using lortab. Don’t stop using lortab suddenly after long-term use as you could suffer from unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor for advice on how to avoid withdrawal symptoms once you stop using lortab. If you miss a dose and are taking lortab regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose. An overdose can be fatal and you should seek emergency medical attention as soon as possible should an overdose occur. Be careful driving when using lortab as it can impair your thinking or reactions. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using and any other cold, allergy, pain or sleep medication. Avoid drinking alcohol when using lortab as it can cause liver damage. Side effects can involve shallow breathing, convulsions, nausea, constipation, headaches and blurred vision.
