Macrobid is an antibiotic drug and like most antibiotics when stopped, it will stay in your system for about a week but a lot depends on the dosage and also your metabolism. A doctor will generally prescribe a 7-day course and like most antibiotics the drug will continue to fight off bacteria for 4-10 days after use.

Macrobid is a drug prescribed mainly for urine infections caused by bacteria, a doctor will generally give a 7-day supply and this is usually enough time to kill off the bacteria that is causing the infection. If, however, you still have signs of the infection after the course is complete, please go back to the doctor and he will most probably prescribe a few more days worth or even change prescription completely.

Like any drug there are common side effects, one of the most common being darkened urine, so please don't worry if you suddenly discover this. Other side effects are gas, headaches and slight nausea. More severe side effects include; severe allergic reaction, hives or a rash, swelling of the mouth or lips, chest tightening, if you get any of these side effects you will need to seek medical advice immediately.

These are but a few, to find out more you can search online or there will usually be a list of side effects within the box so please make sure you read this carefully. You should not take this drug if you are pregnant, have a kidney dysfunction or are allergic to any of the ingredients of the medication. A doctor will check your history and your notes before prescribing these drugs to you. If you are worried at all about any drugs you have been prescribed always seek medical advice.
