Cut off levels in drug testing are the minimum amount of drugs or metabolites that must be in the specimens before the test result shows positive. The amount of drug in the body that labs can detect through testing depends on frequency of use of the drug, testing method, type of specimen, drug detection times and many other such factors. Labs are supposed to follow the guidelines for the federal workplace drug testing. Some programs have been published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health services of every state. Cut off levels are to be maintained and noted before and after the drug test results are revealed.
